6. Backfill -The trench shall be backfiIled between joints before testing to prevent ❑ ❑ ❑ <br />movement of pipe. Thrust blocks and or restrained joint systems shall also be left <br />uncovered for inspection. <br />7. Joints -Joints shall be inspected for visual leakage ❑ ❑ ❑ <br />8. Thrust Blocks -Thrust blocks shall be installed as per approved set of plans and ❑ ❑ ❑ <br />placed between undisturbed earth and the fitting to be restrained and shall be <br />capable of resisting the calculated thrust forces. Wherever possible, thrust blocks <br />shall be placed so that the joints are accessible for repair. <br />9. Release Pressure - After verifying that the system has maintained the required 200 ❑ ❑ ❑ <br />psi for 2 hours, release pressure from the system to verify that the gauge is <br />operating properly. <br />Flushing: <br />10. Before Connection -Underground piping, from the water supply to the system <br />riser, and lead-in connections to the system riser shall be completely flushed <br />before the connection is made to downstream fire protection system piping. <br />11. Pre -Flushing - Pre -flushing shall be conducted by the contractor to ensure all <br />foreign materials have been flushed from the system prior to the fire inspector <br />conducting the official flush test. <br />12. Flushing Operations - Flushing operations shall be set-up and conducted <br />complying with the following: <br />• The discharge used for the flush shall be located in close proximity of the <br />lead-in connection to the system riser. <br />• Water shall be discharged through an open ended 4-inch pipe or through <br />a 4-inch pipe connected to a Y or siamese connection with two 2 y: inch <br />hoses. <br />• There shall be two burlap bags connected to each outlet. <br />• Flow rate shall be at a minimum of 390 gpm. <br />• See the examples 1,2, and 3 of the acceptable configurations for flushing <br />of the system <br />13. 10-Minute Cycles -The fire inspector will conduct the flush test in 10-minute <br />cycles, after each cycle the inspector will inspect the burlap bags located at the <br />outlets for foreign materials. These cycles will continue until water is clear and the <br />bags are free of all foreign materials.
