EARTHWORK OBSERVATION REPORT
Report Number: M7231404.0013
Service Date: 09/18/23
Report Date: 10/17/23
Client
Brixton Everett LLC
Attn: Kyle Godat
120 S Sierra Ave
Solana Beach. CA 92075
Permit No.: 132208-032132208-032
® ierracon
20225 Cedar Valley Rd Ste 110
Lynnwood, WA 98036-6365
425-742-9360
Project
Everett Mall Redevelopment
1402 SE Everett Mall Way
Everett, WA
Proiect Number: M7231404
GENERAL INFORMATION
Bayley Construction (Bayley) requested Terracon's presence on site for floor slab subgrade observation within
the former Sears Building and future Trader Joe's tenant space. The results of the observations were reported
verbally to Bayley prior to departing the site. The Terracon representative arrived on site at 0900 and departed
at 1200.
SUMMARY OF OBSERVATIONS
Prior to arriving on site, the floor slab had been removed for the entirety of the tenant space. The material
exposed generally consisted of a damp, tan to yellow -brown, medium to coarse grained SAND (SP) with gravel.
The subgrade was observed with a 1/2" diameter steel T-probe advanced manually until refused. Probing was
performed in 5' to 10' intervals for the entirety of the floor slab area. In general, the exposed subgrade was
observed to be in a loose condition for the upper 4" to 6" but transitioned to a denser condition below this depth.
A linear section of loose backfill was observed along the northwestern portion of the subgrade. In conferring with
Bayley Superintendent, Joe Lang, it was understood that backfilling of a drain line had occurred in this area. The
depth of the loose material within the backfilled trench was between 12" to 30" below the exposed surface. The
probing intervals were reduced, as needed, to assess the extent of the loose area. The unsuitable backfill was
marked in the field with orange spray paint to aid the contractor in identifying the areas where additional
earthwork is recommended.
RECOMMENDATIONS
The Terracon representative reviewed the subgrade condition with Bayley Superintendent, Joe Lang, prior to
exiting the site. The following recommendations were communicated:
Trench Backfill
Remove the loose material for at least the areas identified via probing (orange painted areas).
Moisture condition the removed material, as needed, and recompact in 8" or less lifts if hand operated
equipment is used and 12" or less lifts if a hoe-pac is used.
Dispatch Terracon to observe the exposed subgrade after excavating and before beginning
backfilling/recompaction. Terracon should observe each lift of backfill.
The tests were performed in general accordance with applicable ASTM, AASHTO, or DOT test methods. This report is exclusively for the use of the client
indicated above and shall not be reproduced except in full without the written consent of our company. Test results transmitted herein are only applicable to
the actual samples tested at the location(s) referenced and are not necessarily indicative of the properties of other apparently similar or identical materials.
CT0001, 10-16-13, Rev.10 Page 1 of
