Acoustical Design Review US Probation Court Office
3. Window Mullion / Wall Intersections Recommendations:
Window mullions are a major weak point in an acoustic assembly where the wall abuts the
mullion. Leaks were noted at most of these joints during our site visit. At mullion / wall
intersections for STC 45 rated walls (Type D) and Demising Walls, we recommend using a
Mull -it -Over Extruded Aluminum Ca on both sides to maintain the performance of the wall.
Without mitigating this condition, voices will be easily heard between adjacent spaces. For
STC 40 and lower wall types, it will be sufficient to caulk the joint between the mullion and
the wall rather than install the mullion cap system. The contractor should be diligent at
finding and eliminating all potential air leaks though the mullions.
Typical Mullion/Wall joint
300 Up c': 310 t'
FOUCHDOA'N/
' ,•.....,...'...
