Acoustical Design Review — US Probation Court Office
2. Doors and Door Seal Recommendations:
Doors must be selected to maintain the required performance of the wall assembly. In
general, the door performance can be 5 STC points less than the required STC rating of
the wall. Therefore, an STC 45 wail assembly (type D) requires that an STC 40 door be
installed. Pemko provides the following high performing options below. With any
acoustically rated door, seals and door hardware must be tuned and adjusted after
installation to make sure they properly compressed and functioning when the door is in the
closed position.
Seals for Doors located in STC 35 or less walls.
• Install Pemko S44BL silicone adhesive backed bulb seals on the sides and top of
the door jam as shown below. This should compress against the side profile of the
door when shut.
anrimptpr bulb Seal
F16Low Closing
of;, ® Force Fin Seal
Stabilizer
(7.9) Flan e ., r 9
® Adhesive
7 1611 ® Backing
(11.1)
Install Pemko 314 N door bottoms and a Pemko 151 Saddle Threshold. The
installer should make sure that the seal compresses against this strip when the door
is in the closed position. Use a thin bead of acoustical sealant to minimize air leaks
between the bottom of the door and the seal, when attaching the bottom seal to the
door.
Pemko 314 Bottom Seal
Pemko 151 Saddle Threshold
T
i O+] Is .. - ►-.
...... .... ....... __....._.._...__..._.._....... ... _.._...... ._.... ._._._._..-.... _.......... ...__._._......... ...._........
