LMJ Enterprises, LP March 31, 2022
Page 2
FIELD EXPLORATIONS
The pilot infiltration test excavations for PIT-1 and PIT-2 were completed on February 15, 2022 using a
Komatsu WB140 excavator owned and operated by Kelly's Excavating, Inc. under subcontract to
GeoEngineers. The PIT locations were determined in the field by measuringfrom existingsite features.
The PITs were continuously monitored by a geologist from our firm who reviewed and classified the soils
encountered, obtained representative soil samples, observed groundwater conditions, and conducted the
infiltration tests. Infiltration testingwas conducted at a depth of about 4 feet in PIT-1 and after completion
of the infiltration test, the test pitwas excavated to a total depth of 9 feet to observe subsurface conditions
immediately below the PIT elevation. Groundwater seepage was observed at a depth of 3 feet in PIT-2 and
infiltration testingwas unable to be completed atthis location because of the seepage. PIT-2 was excavated
to a total depth of 7 feet. Logs of the pilot infiltration test excavations are presented in Appendix A.
Wt1-31 *111 `V
Soil samples were collected from PIT-1 and PIT-2, taken to our laboratory, and reviewed to confirm or modify
field classifications, as well as to evaluate engineering properties of the soil. Representative samples were
obtained near the bottom of each PIT elevation for grain size analyses. The results of these tests are
summarized on the PIT logs at the depths at which the samples were obtained. Laboratory test results are
presented in Appendix A.
SUBSURFACE CONDITIONS
Subsurface conditions atthe site were previously evaluated during our geotechnical engineering study and
are summarized in our December 6, 2021 geotechnical report. The soils observed in the previous
explorations (B-1 through B-3) generally consisted of shallow surficial fill overlying very dense glacial till
deposits. The locations of our previous explorations are shown on Figure 1.
Surficial fill was observed overlying dense to very dense glacial till in PIT-1 and PIT-2 completed for this
project. Approximately 4 feet of fill, consisting of medium dense sand with variable gravel and silt content
was encountered in PIT-1. The fill was overlying dense to very dense glacial till consisting of sand with silt
and gravel to silty sand with gravel. Similar conditions were observed in PIT-2 where approximately 5 feet
of fill consisting of medium dense sand with silt and gravel was encountered overlying dense glacial till,
consisting of silty sand with gravel.
The soils encountered in PIT-1 and PIT-2 are consistentwith the soils observed in our previous explorations.
The fill encountered in PIT-1 and PIT-2 are likely associated with past grading activities associated with
construction of the existing development.
lei 1019 `I'1 14 N
Moderate groundwater seepage was observed at a depth of 3 feet during excavation of PIT-2. The seepage
in PIT-2 was observed to be perched groundwater on the relatively impermeable glacial till deposits.
Groundwater seepage was not encountered in our previous borings (B-1 through B-3), as summarized in
our geotechnical report. Groundwater seepage was also not observed during excavation of PIT-1.
GWENGINEER
File No. 24459 003 00
