2025 PAVEMENT MAINTENANCE OVERLAY SPECIAL PROVISIONS <br />PW# 3830 <br /> SP-56 March 26, 2025 <br /> <br />HMA mixture which is accepted by Nonstatistical Evaluation will be evaluated by the 1 <br />Contracting Agency by dividing the HMA tonnage into lots. 2 <br /> 3 <br />5-04.3(9)C1 Mixture Nonstatistical Evaluation – Lots and Sublots 4 <br />A lot is represented by randomly selected samples of the same mix design that will be 5 <br />tested for acceptance. A lot is defined as the total quantity of material or work produced 6 <br />for each Job Mix Formula placed. Only one lot per JMF is expected. A sublot shall be 7 <br />equal to one day’s production or 800 tons, whichever is less except that the final sublot 8 <br />will be a minimum of 400 tons and may be increased to 1200 tons. 9 <br /> 10 <br />All of the test results obtained from the acceptance samples from a given lot shall be 11 <br />evaluated collectively. If the Contractor requests a change to the JMF that is approved, 12 <br />the material produced after the change will be evaluated on the basis of the new JMF for 13 <br />the remaining sublots in the current lot and for acceptance of subsequent lots. For a lot 14 <br />in progress with a CPF less than 0.75, a new lot will begin at the Contractor’s request 15 <br />after the Engineer is satisfied that material conforming to the Specifications can be 16 <br />produced. 17 <br /> 18 <br />Sampling and testing for evaluation shall be performed on the frequency of one sample 19 <br />per sublot. 20 <br /> 21 <br />5-04.3(9)C2 Mixture Nonstatistical Evaluation Sampling 22 <br />Samples for acceptance testing shall be obtained by the Contractor when ordered by the 23 <br />Engineer. The Contractor shall sample the HMA mixture in the presence of the Engineer 24 <br />and in accordance with AASH-TO T 168. A minimum of three samples should be taken 25 <br />for each class of HMA placed on a project. If used in a structural application, at least one 26 <br />of the three samples shall be tested. 27 <br /> 28 <br />Sampling and testing HMA in a structural application where quantities are less than 400 29 <br />tons is at the discretion of the Engineer. 30 <br /> 31 <br />For HMA used in a structural application and with a total project quantity less than 800 32 <br />tons but more than 400 tons, a minimum of one acceptance test shall be performed. In 33 <br />all cases, a minimum of 3 samples will be obtained at the point of acceptance, a 34 <br />minimum of one of the three samples will be tested for conformance to the JMF: 35 <br /> 36 <br />· If the test results are found to be within specification requirements, additional 37 <br />testing will be at the Engineer’s discretion. 38 <br /> 39 <br />· If test results are found not to be within specification requirements, additional 40 <br />testing of the remaining samples to determine a CPF shall be performed. 41 <br /> 42 <br />5-04.3(9)C3 Mixture Nonstatistical Evaluation – Acceptance Testing 43 <br />Testing of HMA for compliance of Va will at the option of the Contracting Agency. If 44 <br />tested, compliance of Va will use WSDOT SOP 731. 45 <br /> 46
