During
the initial portion of the site visit, Mr. McCann was accompanied by Mrs. Haugen, the
property owner. No existing drawings or Geotechnical Report were available for review
during or after the site visit. Pictures were taken of the interior and exterior of the residence,
and a selected few are included in this report.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The existing garage is a single -story wood frame structure with a stick framed roof that is
situated at the Northeast corner of the property. The existing residence fronts East Drive to
the west. Prior to the fire, from Google Earth, the garage had a woodshed with a single
sloped roof at the east end of the garage. The woodshed is no longer present, having been
destroyed and removed after the fire. The purpose of this report is to document the damage
seen to the remaining structure and recommend any remedial actions.
STRUCTURAL OBSERVATIONS
• The existing east wood fence in the vicinity of the garage had been replaced.
• Fire damage was noted on the east wall, the eastern portion of the north wall, and the
northeast corner of the roof of the existing garage.
• The West and South walls of the garage were not damaged.
• The woodshed was no longer present, with even the eastern footings for the shed
having been removed.
• The existing composition roofing at the northeast corner of the garage had been badly
charred by the fire. A minor amout of damage to the roofing was seen at the easatern
edge of the garage south of the ridgeline.
• The existing roof construction consists of 3/4" shiplap over 2X4 rafters @ 24" on
center with 2X and I diagonals from about the rafter third points to the 2X4 ceiling
joists below. A few 2X4 rafter ties were present between the tops of the diagonal
members. Whether or not there is plywood over the shiplap could not be observed.
