Removal and replacement of the wearing course of HMA, or 1 <br /> 2 <br />3. By other method approved by the Engineer. 3 <br /> 4 <br />Correction of defects shall be carried out until there are no deviations anywhere greater 5 <br />than the allowable tolerances. 6 <br /> 7 <br />Deviations in excess of the above tolerances that result from a low place in the HMA and 8 <br />deviations resulting from a high place where corrective action, in the opinion of the 9 <br />Engineer, will not produce satisfactory results will be accepted with a price adjustment. 10 <br />The Engineer shall deduct from monies due or that may become due to the Contractor 11 <br />the sum of $500.00 for each and every section of single traffic lane 100 feet in length in 12 <br />which any excessive deviations described above are found. 13 <br /> 14 <br />When utility appurtenances such as manhole covers and valve boxes are located in the 15 <br />traveled way, the utility appurtenances shall be adjusted to the finished grade prior to 16 <br />paving. This requirement may be waived when requested by the Contractor, at the 17 <br />discretion of the Engineer or when the adjustment details provided in the project plan or 18 <br />specifications call for utility appurtenance adjustments after the completion of paving. 19 <br /> 20 <br />Utility appurtenance adjustment discussions will be included in the Pre-Paving and Pre-21 <br />Planing Briefing (5-04.3(14)B3). Submit a written request to waive this requirement to the 22 <br />Engineer prior to the start of paving. 23 <br /> 24 <br />5-04.3(14) Planing Bituminous Pavement 25 <br />*** 26 <br />The Contractor shall call for locates before planing any HMA pavement. Any induction 27 <br />loop vehicle detectors which are within the planing area shall be discussed with the 28 <br />inspector prior to planing to see if the planing limits can be modified to save the loops. 29 <br />Any loops which are damaged in the planing process shall be replaced prior to the final 30 <br />overlay. The electrical subcontractor shall be on-call and the loops shall be replaced 31 <br />within 5 working days of the planing operation and paved within 3 working days of the 32 <br />loop installation. See Section 8-20 of the Specifications for details on loop installation 33 <br />and payment. 34 <br />*** 35 <br />The planing plan must be approved by the Engineer and a pre-planing meeting must be 36 <br />held prior to the start of any planing. See Section 5-04.3(14)B2 for information on planing 37 <br />submittals. 38 <br /> 39 <br />Where planing an existing pavement is specified in the Contract, the Contractor must 40 <br />remove existing surfacing material and to reshape the surface to remove irregularities. 41 <br />The finished product must be a prepared surface acceptable for receiving an HMA 42 <br />overlay. 43 <br /> 44 <br />Use the cold milling method for planing unless otherwise specified in the Contract. Do 45 <br />not use the planer on the final wearing course of new HMA. 46 <br /> 47
