The use of Additives is subject to the 1 <br />following: 2 <br /> 3 <br />· Do not use additives that reduce the mixing temperature more than allowed in 4 <br />Section 5-04.3(6) in the production of mixtures. 5 <br />· Before using additives, obtain the Engineer’s approval using WSDOT Form 350-6 <br />076 to describe the proposed additive and process. 7 <br /> 8 <br />5-04.3 Construction Requirements 9 <br /> 10 <br />5-04.3(1) Weather Limitations 11 <br />Do not place HMA for wearing course on any Traveled Way beginning October 1st 12 <br />through March 31st of the following year without written concurrence from the Engineer. 13 <br /> 14 <br />Do not place HMA on any wet surface, or when the average surface temperatures are 15 <br />less than those specified below, or when weather conditions otherwise prevent the 16 <br />proper handling or finishing of the HMA. 17 <br /> 18 <br />Minimum Surface Temperature for Paving 19 <br />Compacted Thickness <br />(Feet) Wearing Course Other Courses <br />Less than 0.10 55°F 45°F <br />0.10 to .20 45°F 35°F <br />More than 0.20 35°F 35°F <br /> 20 <br />5-04.3(2) Paving Under Traffic 21 <br />When the Roadway being paved is open to traffic, the requirements of this Section 22 <br />shall apply. 23 <br /> 24 <br />The Contractor shall keep intersections open to traffic at all times except when paving 25 <br />the intersection or paving across the intersection. During such time, and provided that 26 <br />there has been an advance warning to the public, the intersection may be closed for the 27 <br />minimum time required to place and compact the mixture. In hot weather, the Engineer 28 <br />may require the application of water to the pavement to accelerate the finish rolling of the 29 <br />pavement and to shorten the time required before reopening to traffic. 30 <br /> 31 <br />Before closing an intersection, advance warning signs shall be placed, and signs shall 32 <br />also be placed marking the detour or alternate route. 33 <br /> 34 <br />During paving operations, temporary pavement markings shall be maintained throughout 35 <br />the project. Temporary pavement markings shall be installed on the Roadway prior to 36 <br />opening to traffic. Temporary pavement markings shall be in accordance with Section 8-37 <br />23. 38
