The rating isn't significant in this case, the gasketing is.
Thanks,Tony
Tony Lee
MIBuilding Official I Permit Services
425.257.8812 13200 Cedar Street, 2"d Floor, Everett,WA 98201
EVERETT everettwa.gov/permits I Facebook I Twitter
From: MacKenzie, Katie<kmackenzie@glumac.com>
Sent:Thursday,July 7, 2022 10:27 AM
To:Tony Lee<TLee@everettwa.gov>
Subject: [EXTERNAL] Building A-Generator Exhaust
CAUTION:This email originated from outside of the organization. Do not click links or open attachments unless you
recognize the sender and know the content is safe.
Hi Tony,
I hope this message finds you well.We have a question regarding the project Everett Riverfront Building A(B2003-013),
vested under 2015 building code. The project team is having difficulty locating the building's generator exhaust outlet in
such a way that is completely compliant with the code/NFPA.
In IMC 2015 with WA state amendments, section 501.3.1,ducts conveying explosive or flammable vapors, fumes or
dusts shall remain "30 feet(9144 mm)from the property line;10 feet(3048 mm)from operable openings into the
building; 6 feet(1829 mm)from exterior walls and roofs;30 feet(9144 mm)from combustible walls and operable
openings into the building which are in the direction of the exhaust discharge;10 feet(3048 mm) above adjoining
grade.". Please see attached diagrammatic detail that outlines all NFPA requirements for generators when located
within a building.
Our proposed engine exhaust outlet is compliant of the above criteria, with the exception of one double door located
south-east of the outlet.See below for a visual description of the situation below(color coded for showing proposed
relocation of systems). The double door in question is outlined in purple. The red circle defines the engine exhaust's 10
foot clearance requirement for operable openings into the building. This double-door is normally closed, and leads to a
back-of-house electrical room. The windows within the 10 foot clearance are non-operable.We have looked at all other
options and have concluded that this is the optimal location of the generator exhaust outlet. Given this information, are
we able to get a code exemption for this double door?
64---/—;?)
