In 2017–2021, 11,209 of 21,559 renter households (52 percent) spent more than 30 <br />percent of their income on housing. Disaggregatfng by race and ethnicity highlights even starker <br />disparitfes: <br />• Hispanic or Latfno (any race): 62 percent of renter households are cost-burdened, ten points <br />above the citywide renter average. <br />• American Indian or Alaska Natfve alone, non-Hispanic: 58 percent cost-burdened, six points <br />above the average. <br />• Other Race alone, non-Hispanic: 58 percent cost-burdened, again well above the average. <br />• Black or African American alone, non-Hispanic: 55 percent face cost burden, three points above <br />the average. <br />• Asian alone, non-Hispanic: 46 percent cost-burdened, slightly below the overall renter rate. <br />• White alone, non-Hispanic: 44 percent cost-burdened, eight points below the overall rate. <br />These data show that renter households of color, partfcularly Hispanic or Latfno, American Indian or <br />Alaska Natfve, and Other Race, are much more likely to spend over 30 percent of their income on rent. In <br />comparison, Asian and White renter households fall below the citywide renter average, though rates in <br />the mid-40s stfll represent a substantfal share facing cost burden.
