2025 FEDERAL OVERLAY, BROADWAY – CALIFORNIA ST TO 18TH ST SPECIAL PROVISIONS <br />FEDERAL AID# STBGUL-2715(012); COE PW# 3841 SP-80 May 6, 2025 <br /> <br />A lot is represented by randomly selected samples of the same mix design that will be 1 <br />tested for acceptance. A lot is defined as the total quantity of material or work produced 2 <br />for each Job Mix Formula placed. Only one lot per JMF is expected. A sublot shall be 3 <br />equal to one day’s production or 800 tons, whichever is less except that the final sublot 4 <br />will be a minimum of 400 tons and may be increased to 1200 tons. 5 <br /> 6 <br />All of the test results obtained from the acceptance samples from a given lot shall be 7 <br />evaluated collectively. If the Contractor requests a change to the JMF that is approved, 8 <br />the material produced after the change will be evaluated on the basis of the new JMF for 9 <br />the remaining sublots in the current lot and for acceptance of subsequent lots. For a lot 10 <br />in progress with a CPF less than 0.75, a new lot will begin at the Contractor’s request 11 <br />after the Engineer is satisfied that material conforming to the Specifications can be 12 <br />produced. 13 <br /> 14 <br />Sampling and testing for evaluation shall be performed on the frequency of one sample 15 <br />per sublot. 16 <br /> 17 <br />5-04.3(9)C2 Mixture Nonstatistical Evaluation Sampling 18 <br />Samples for acceptance testing shall be obtained by the Contractor when ordered by the 19 <br />Engineer. The Contractor shall sample the HMA mixture in the presence of the Engineer 20 <br />and in accordance with AASH-TO T 168. A minimum of three samples should be taken 21 <br />for each class of HMA placed on a project. If used in a structural application, at least one 22 <br />of the three samples shall be tested. 23 <br /> 24 <br />Sampling and testing HMA in a structural application where quantities are less than 400 25 <br />tons is at the discretion of the Engineer. 26 <br /> 27 <br />For HMA used in a structural application and with a total project quantity less than 800 28 <br />tons but more than 400 tons, a minimum of one acceptance test shall be performed. In 29 <br />all cases, a minimum of 3 samples will be obtained at the point of acceptance, a 30 <br />minimum of one of the three samples will be tested for conformance to the JMF: 31 <br /> 32 <br />· If the test results are found to be within specification requirements, additional 33 <br />testing will be at the Engineer’s discretion. 34 <br /> 35 <br />· If test results are found not to be within specification requirements, additional 36 <br />testing of the remaining samples to determine a CPF shall be performed. 37 <br /> 38 <br />5-04.3(9)C3 Mixture Nonstatistical Evaluation – Acceptance Testing 39 <br />Testing of HMA for compliance of Va will at the option of the Contracting Agency. If 40 <br />tested, compliance of Va will use WSDOT SOP 731. 41 <br /> 42 <br />Testing for compliance of asphalt binder content will be by WSDOT FOP for AASHTO T 43 <br />308. 44 <br /> 45 <br />Testing for compliance of gradation will be by FOP for WAQTC T 27/T 11. 46 <br /> 47
