I
1
June 6,2008
Serenity Meadows
L&A Job No. 8A017
Page 5
mounted backhoe to depths from 5.5 to 13.0 feet. The approximate locations of the test pits are
shown on Plate 2 - Site and Exploration Location Plan. The test pits were located with either a
tape measure or by visual reference to existing topographic features in the field and on the
topographic survey map, and their locations should be considered only accurate to the measuring
method used.
A geotechnical engineer from our office was present during subsurface exploration, who
examined the soil and geologic conditions encountered and completed logs of test pits. Soil
samples obtained from each soil unit in the test pits were visually classified in general
accordance with United Soil Classification System, ,a copy of which is presented on Plate 3.
Detailed descriptions of soils encountered during site exploration axe presented in test pit logs on
Plates 4 through 7.
A layer of loose organic topsoil, from 10 to 21 inches thick, was encountered by most of the test
pits, except Test Pits 2,3 and 6 excavated in the backyard in which a layer of fill from about 1.3
to 9.0 feet thick was encountered. This layer of fill is consisted of gravelly, silty, fine to medium
sand with occasional cobble. This layer of fill is medium-dense to dense, obviously bad received
some degreeof compaction effort. The fill, however, was underlain by a discontinuous layer of
relic topsoil, about 12 inches thick, with occasional to abundant roots, indicating the topsoil had
not been completely strippedprior to the fillplacement. Underlying the fl1/relic topsoil is a layer
P y PPe y P
of weathered soils of medium-dense,brown to light-brown, silty fine sand with a trace of gravel,
about 1.4 to 2.5 feet thick. In Test Pits 1, 2, 5, 6 and 7 in the eastern portion of the to-be-
developed area, this layer of weathered soils is underlain by a fresh till deposit of light-gray,
very-dense,gravelly, silty, fine sand with occasional cobble. In Test Pits 3 and 4 in the western
Iportion of the to-be-developed area, the layer of weathered soils is underlain by a fresh advance
outwash soils of gray,medium-dense to dense, gravelly, fine to coarse sand.
I
1 LEIU & ASSOCIATES, INC.
