1
I Proposed James Monroe Elementary Subsurface Exploration, Geologic Hazards, and School Replacement Revised Geotechnical Engineering Report
Everett, Washington Project and Site Conditions
I. PROJECT AND SITE CONDITIONS
1.0 INTRODUCTION
' This report presents the results,of our subsurface exploration, geologic hazards, and revised
geotechnical engineering studies for the proposed new elementary school. The approximate
locations of exploration borings completed for this study are shown on the "Site and
' Exploration Plan," Figure 1. Logs of the subsurface explorations completed for this study and
copies of laboratory testing results are included in the Appendix.
•
1.1 Purpose and Scope
The purpose of this study was to provide geotechnical engineering design recommendations to
be utilized in the design of the project. This study included a review of selected available
geologic literature, advancing seven exploration borings, and performing geologic studies to
assess the type, thickness, distribution, and physical properties of the subsurface sediments and
' shallow ground water. Geotechnical engineering studies were completed to establish
recommendations for the type of suitable foundations and floors, allowable foundation soil
bearing pressure, anticipated foundation and floor settlement, pavement recommendations,
infiltration feasibility, and drainage considerations. This report summarizes our fieldwork and
offers recommendations based on our present understanding of the project. We recommend
that we be allowed to review the recommendations presented in this report and revise them, if
needed, when a project design has been finalized.
In addition to our geotechnical engineering scope of work, we are also working on tasks
' related to storm water infiltration. That work is ongoing, and will be addressed separately
from this report.
' 1.2 Authorization
Authorization to proceed with this study was granted by the Everett School District No. 2
' (District). Our work was completed in general accordance with our scope of work and cost
proposal, dated August 19, 2009. This report has been prepared for the exclusive use of the
District and its agents for specific application to this project. Within the limitations of scope,
schedule, and budget, our services have been performed in accordance with generally accepted
geotechnical engineering and engineering geology practices in effect in this area at the time our
report was prepared. No other warranty, express or implied, is made.
1
1
October 5, 2009 ASSOCIATED EARTH SCIENCES,INC.
r3WG/!d-KE090312A3.Projects1200903121KEIWP Page 1
1
