Below are our responses to the structural comments. All changes to the drawings due to a plan check comment have been clouded on the drawings. * * * * * 1. On page 2 of the permit calculations there are 2 different weight take-off values used to estimate the roof dead load, one for gravity and one for seismic. On page 61 of the calculations,the 14 psf value is utilized for estimating seismic weight and would appear to underestimate the base shear if used in base shear calculations. Please clarify and justify such reductions as a reduction of the roof dead load to estimate seismic weight does not appear to be covered per ASCE 7-16 Sec 12.7.1 and ASCE 7-16 Sec 3.1. The building is designed for a larger gravity dead load to ensure a conservative design of the roof joists which may be used to support higher loads then the average distributed design load. The actual roof dead load is 10.8 psf which is less than the 14 psf seismic dead load used to determine the base shear. Base shear used for design is adequate.See supplemental calculation pages 2 thru 8. 2. On page 63 of the permit calculations, it appears that at some grid lines where concrete panels are to be installed,the panels are intended to "work together" as a unit. Per ACI 318-14 18.5.2.2, for concrete panel connections that are not intended to yield are to be designed to 1.5*Sy. Please verify that such connections that are not intended to yield are able to resist these prescribed demands.
