<br /> 7. GENERAL DECOMMISSIONING PROCEDURE
<br /> EXISTING CONDITIONS
<br /> EACH OF THE EIGHT(8) EXISTING LIFTS CONSISTS OF A SINGLE FIXED LIFT AND ONE OR TWO MOVABLE LIFTS. THE FIXED LIFTS ARE DIRECT BURIED
<br /> S x CYLINDERS THAT REST ON THRUST BLOCKS APPROXIMATELY 9' BELOW THE FINISHED FLOOR. THE MOVABLE LIFTS TRAVEL ON CARRIAGES ALONG THE TOP
<br /> EDGES OF A NARROW FOUNDATION BOX THAT IS APPROXIMATELY 20"WIDE AND 9' DEEP.
<br /> THE LIFTS ARE OPERATED BY FOUR (4) HYDRAULIC POWER UNITS, 2 LIFTS PER HPU, THAT ARE INSTALLED ALONG THE NORTH AND SOUTH WALLS OF THE
<br /> MAINTENANCE BAY. THE HYDRAULIC OIL IS ROUTED TO THE LIFTS THROUGH PIPING ROUTED BENEATH THE FLOOR.
<br /> 6 PLANNED RENOVATION
<br /> THE EXISTING LIFTS ARE TO BE DECOMMISSIONED AND REMOVED, AND REPLACED BY MORE MODERN SCISSOR STYLE VEHICLE LIFTS. THE NEW LIFTS ARE
<br /> 5 COMPACT WHEN RETRACTED, AND THE FOUNDATIONS ARE APPROXIMATELY 3'-6"DEEP.
<br /> CHALLENGES
<br /> IT IS IMPRACTICAL TO FULLY EXCAVATE AND REMOVE THE FOUNDATIONS OF THE EXISTING LIFTS. FIRST, THE EXCAVATIONS WOULD NEED TO BE
<br /> APPROXIMATELY 10' DEEP, WHICH WILL BE DIFFICULT WITHIN THE CONFINES OF THE EXISTING BUILDING, AND COULD POTENTIALLY IMPACT THE STRUCTURAL
<br /> 4 INTEGRITY OF THE EXISTING BUILDING. SECOND, OILS AND OTHER CONTAMINANTS THAT ARE CURRENTLY CONTAINED WITHIN THE EXISTING FOUNDATIONS
<br /> COULD BE RELEASED INTO THE SURROUNDING SOILS.

<br /> IN ORDER TO ALLEVIATE THE CHALLENGES OUTLINED ABOVE, IT IS SAFER AND MORE ECONOMICAL TO ONLY EXCAVATE TO THE DEPTH REQUIRED FOR THE
<br /> NEW LIFTS. THE EXPOSED PORTIIONS OF THE EXISTING FOUNDA11ONS WILL BE DEMOLISHED AND REMOVED, BUT THE REMAINING LOWER PORTIONS OF THE
<br /> FOUNDATIONS WILL BE FILLED WITH COMPACTED FILL MATERIAL AND ABANDONED IN PLACE.

<br /> IN ORDER TO DECOMMISSION THE LIFTS IN THE SAFEST AND MOST EFFECTIVE MANNER, THE FOLLOWING GENERAL PROCESS SHALL BE USED. WHEN
<br /> ° DISMANTLING HYDRAULIC LINES AND FITTINGS, CAPTURE AS MUCH OIL AS POSSIBLE TO ALLEVIATE LATER CLEAN UP.
<br /> 00 � 1. CLOSE THE MANUAL VALVES ON THE HYDRAULIC LINES TO ISOLATE THE LIFTS.
