Entry floor repair <br /> 2. Framing of upper-level cantilever <br /> 3. Down bracing from rafters to ceiling joists. <br /> A tri-level light framed residence resides on the subject site. According to the Snohomish County <br /> Assessor website, the residence was constructed in 1976. <br /> Entry landing cantilevered joists were cut during the removal of a closet, see Image 1 &2. <br /> Blocking should be installed between these joists to prevent rotation. Once blocking is installed, <br /> the floor joist modification will be of no structural concern. <br /> With the removal of the entry landing cantilever floor joists,the upper-level floor joists became <br /> unsupported on one end, see Image 3. It is recommended that the existing repair be removed, and <br /> the floor framing members be replaced with 2x8 DF No.l joists at 16"on-center. These joists are <br /> to bear on the existing interior load bearing wall and the exterior load bearing wall, see attached <br /> plans. <br /> The opening in the entry wall may be framed in with traditional interior partition wall <br /> construction. <br /> The upper-level at the rear of the residence has a 24-inch cantilever over the lower level. The 2x8 <br /> joists were drilled to allow the passage of numerous non-metallic sheathed electrical cables, see <br /> Image 4. A location analysis was undertaken to determine the adequacy of the existing floor <br /> joists to withstand the floor and roof loads.The existing floor joists do not have the section <br /> properties required to safely resolve the loads.
