July 2, 2008
Duplex Buildings
L&A Job No. 8AO67
Page 6
DISCUSSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
GENERAL
Based on the geologic conditions indicated on the above -referenced geologic map and the soil
conditions encountered by the test pits excavated on the site, it is our opinion that the proposed
development for the duplex buildings is feasible for the site from a geotechnical engineering
viewpoint, provided that the recommendations in this report are fully implemented and observed
during construction. The fill, topsoil and loose to medium -dense weathered soils should be
completely stripped down to very -dense fresh till and/or dense advance outwash soils within the
building pads of the proposed duplex buildings and the topsoil and the unsuitable soils in the root
zone should be stripped down to the medium -dense to dense weathered soils and/or very -dense
fresh till soils within the paved driveway.
The underlying very -dense, fresh till and dense advance outwash soils have very -high to high
shear strength and are capable of providing adequate foundation support to the proposed duplex
buildings. Conventional footing foundations constructed on or into these competent soils may be
used to support the proposed duplex buildings. Structural fill, if required for site grading, should
be placed on proof -rolled, unyielding, undisturbed, very -dense, fresh till and/or dense advanced
outwash soils following the stripping of the surficial unsuitable soils.
GEOLOGIC HAZARDS AND REMEDIATION
Landslide Hazard
The subject site is very gently sloped and is underlain at shallow depth by very -dense fresh till
and/or dense advance outwash soils of very -high to high shear strength. Therefore, the potential
for deep-seated landslides to occur within the site should be nil.
LIU & ASSOCIATES, INC.
