City technicians will do the striping layout the day of paving in white paint once the mat cures. There are
changes to the original channelization plan from the 415t Street Extension & Roundabout project,so the striping
contractor is advised to follow the layout marking on the street rather than the plan sheets. Roundabout
striping practices have changes and the City has made revisions to reflect modern roundabout practices. Any
questions on interpreting markings feel free to call John Wisdom at 425-257-0642 or Corey Hert at 425-257-
0640.
2. Temporary pavement markings shall conform to WSDOT/APWA Standard Specifications, section 8-23 and 9-34
for short term temporary pavement markings. Removable pavement marking tape shall be reflective ASTM
D4592 type II. Essentially we will be looking for roadway grade reflective foil back tape or equivalent type.
3. Temporary markings are to be installed per 8-23.3(4). Temporary centerlines shall be double yellow 4” line,4
foot line with 36 foot gap.Temporary lane line shall be single 4" white line,4 foot line and 36 foot
gap. Temporary bike lane line, bike symbols, letters, and edge lines are not required.Temporary arrows shall be
4" white line roughly approximating the type of arrows shown on the pavement and sufficient size to be clearly
visible (approximately 4'wide by 5' long, or larger, depending on the type of arrow). Roundabout"fish hook"
arrows are to be converted to standard arrows of same type or style. Crosswalks shall be 4"wide-bars 10 feet
wide continuous of the same piano key type as permanent installation. Wide long line approaching the
roundabout shall be 4"white line 4 foot line and 16 foot gap due to the significant reverse curvature oh the
approach. Yield line on the outside of the roundabout shall be 8"wide broken line of the same type as
permanent installation, 2' line and 2'gap.
4. Permanent striping shall take place a minimum of 10 days curing period following paving to keep residual
asphalt from discoloring the markings. For all plastic markings shown in the plans material shall be Type A
thermoplastic or Type D methyl methacrylate. Plastic pavement markings on bridge decks shall be Type D
methyl methacrylate. Crosswalks, stop lines, yield lines, and arrows shall be extruded. Glass beads shall be
incorporated into the plastic material and top, coated as well. Top coating shall be by mechanical means soon
enough to allow good penetration into the material and hand broadcasting is not allowed.
5. In preparation for paving, recently installed wedges and tubular markers will need to be removed and can be
done the day prior to paving if needed. Vertical edges of catch basin grates and at crosswalks can be marked
with cones or candlesticks to warn bicycles, vehicles, and pedestrians while the roadway remains open.
If there are any questions, either John or I would be happy to answer them. We will meet with the striping contractor
prior to installation regarding temporary markings to answer any questions while we are doing layout.
V*7' 7'
rvrWBrrxs
Corey N.
