• <br /> • <br /> Any other reasonable tests necessary to determine whether <br /> any elevator installation complies with the requirements herein <br /> prescribed may be required by the Inspector of Buildings. <br /> (j ) Every elevator and all equipment connected therewith <br /> shall be so istalled and proper room shall be so provided around <br /> the same as will permit of the proper care and inspection of said <br /> elevator and equipment-. Every pent house shall be provided with a <br /> door giving' access from the roof. <br /> (k) Passenger elevators shall be used for passengers <br /> only except as herein provided. Combination passenger and freight <br /> elevators, commonly known as "Service Elevators" shall not be used <br /> for carrying passengers unless such elevators are provides with an <br /> enclosed cage as required for passenger elevators and are equipped <br /> with all the safety devices required for passenger elevators. Such <br /> combination freight and passenger elevators may have two openings <br /> if one opening is so arranged that it must be fastened shut before <br /> the elevator can be started, but in such case the opening to be <br /> used by passengers shall be on one side of the elevator only, except <br /> as otherwise provided for passenger elevator cabs. <br /> Freight elevators not exceeding a speed of 100 feet 0 <br /> inches per minute may be used to carry a few employees at a time <br /> and an occasional passenger, under such regulations as the Inspector <br /> of Buildings may prescribe. <br /> (1) During the erection of a building the elevators may <br /> be used as construction elevators provided they are good, safe and <br /> sufficient for such purposes, and provided they are protected on <br /> every floor with a substantial fence 5 feet 0 inches high with <br /> proper gates. <br /> (m) No person under 16 years of age shall operate any <br /> passenger elevator and no owner or agent shall employ or permit <br /> any person under the age of 16 years of age to operate any passenger <br /> elevator. <br />
