r <br /> permit therefor from the chief of the fire department, and unless <br /> kept or stored under, the following conditions, to-wit: <br /> Such oils ;shall be kept and stored in metal tanks located:. <br /> so as to leave a clear space of not less than one hundred (100) <br /> feet between such tank or tanks and any combustible property other <br /> than oil tanks or warehouses for the storage of oil, and so located; <br /> to be at least two hundred. ( 200) feet from the high-water mark of <br /> the tide-water or from the shore-line of fresh-water bodies. Such <br /> tank shall be surrounded by an embankment or bulkhead capable of <br /> retaining one and one-third ( 1 ,1/3) times the contents of such <br /> tank or tanks, which said embankment or bulkhead shall have no <br /> openings and shall be constructed of non-combustible materials in <br /> such manner and of such height and thickness as the inspector of <br /> buildings and chief of the fire department shall prescribe. <br /> Leading from the lowest point in the enclosed area a pipe <br /> with which to drain off water .in case of fire shall be provided, when, <br /> and in' such manner as required by the chief of the fire department. Such <br /> pipe shall be provided with a suitable valve-, which shall. at all times. <br /> be kept closed and securely_loek-edr- except as ordere:t 6Pened by the <br /> chief of the fire department. <br /> The design and construction of storage tanks and bulkheads, <br /> as hereinabove provided, shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the <br /> inspector of buildings, and it shall be unlawful to construct such <br /> tanks or bulkheads until a permit therefor in writing shall be- obtain- <br /> ed from the inspector of buildings. <br /> This section shall not apply to crude petroleum used in <br /> the manufacturing of illuminating gas for public use or in connection <br /> with fuel oil burning plants; and, provided, further, that the provisions <br /> of the section requiring storage tanks for oil to be two hundred ( 200) <br /> feet from high-water mark .of tide-water and one 'hundree (100) feet 'from <br /> any combustible, property shall not apply to the. storage of crude pet- <br />
