<br /> <br /> <br />EVERETT POLICE OFFICERS ASSOCIATION <br />PAGE 39 <br /> <br /> <br />ARTICLE 23 - SICK LEAVE <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />23.1 Sick Leave Accrual <br /> <br />23.1.1 All full-time employees, shall receive sick leave benefits in accordance with the <br />following: <br /> <br />23.1.2 Upon employment, employees shall accrue six (6) hours of sick leave per pay <br />period. Upon completion of the probationary period, a new hire shall be credited <br />with an additional 280 hours of sick leave. The maximum accrual of sick leave <br />shall be 1040 hours. <br /> <br />23.2 Sick Leave Use. <br /> <br />23.3.1 Employees shall be allowed to use sick leave in accordance with RCW 49.46.210 <br />and WAC 296-128-600 through 296-128-770, and any other applicable sick leave <br />use statute. <br /> <br />23.4 Licensed Health Care Provider’s Certification. <br /> <br />23.4.1 Employees that are absent for more than three (3) consecutive days or shifts are <br />required to submit a leave request to Human Resources. Documentation from a <br />medical provider may be required when an employee uses three (3) or more <br />consecutive workdays or shifts of sick leave. In the event documentation is <br />required, an employee must provide the verification within fifteen (15) calendar <br />days of the request. <br /> <br />23.5 Other Usage of Sick Leave. <br /> <br />23.5.1 Employees shall also be allowed to use sick leave for FMLA or to offset L&I <br />benefits or Washington Paid Family Medical Leave in accordance with City <br />Policy and State and Federal Law. <br /> <br />23.6 Notification. <br /> <br />23.6.1 When requesting sick leave, employees must notify their supervisor of the need <br />for leave as soon as the need is foreseeable. The employee is not required to <br />disclose the specific nature of the medical condition. <br /> <br />23.7 Sick Leave at Retirement or Death. <br /> <br />23.7.1 Employees shall be allowed upon retirement to receive in cash an amount equal to <br />fifty percent (50%) of the value of the employee’s existing sick leave accrual <br />balances up to a maximum of 520 hours. <br />
