ORDINANCA NO. \,& A <br /> An ordinance relating to the fire protection of the city <br /> of Averett, regulating the care and storage of explosives and com- <br /> bustible materials, regulating the keeping and disposal of ashes, <br /> coals, straw, and other combustible and inflammable materials, <br /> repealing Ordinances numbers 49, 52, 371 and 698 of the city of <br /> i verett, and declaring an emergency. <br /> T rA CITY OF J VJi RtTT DOr:S ORDAIN: <br /> CARA AND STORAGA OF AXPLOSIVAS. <br /> Section 1: The keeping, having or storing within the <br /> city of Averett of nitro-glycerine in any quantity whatsoever, or of <br /> gunpowder,blasting powder, giant powder, champion powder, or other <br /> highly explosive substances in larger total quantities than fifty <br /> (50) pounds at any one time and place, and the keeping, having or <br /> storing within said city of gunpowder or blasting powder in any other <br /> manner than in tin or metal canisters or cases , or in any position <br /> contiguous to any fire or lighted lamp or gas jet, or the keeping, <br /> having or storing of any such substance in any situation not readily <br /> accessible for the removal of the same in case of fire, and the keep- <br /> ing, having or storing of any highly explosive or combustible mater- <br /> ial or substance in a careless or dangerous manner, is hereby <br /> declared to be unlawful; provided, however, that the chief of the <br /> fire department may, in his discretion, issue a written permit to <br /> store such explosives in larger quantities or in a different manner <br /> than herein provided, at such places as he may designate, and under <br /> such restrictions and regulations as he may see fit to impose; provid- <br /> ed, fur there that nothing in this section shall be deemed to repeal <br /> or in any wise affect the provisions of Ordinances numbers 1275 and <br /> 1494. <br /> CARA AND STORAGi OF TAR, PITCH, OIL, ATC. <br /> Section 2: The having or keeping within said city of any <br /> quantity of tar, pitch, rosin, cotton waste, petroleum or any of <br />
