ORDINANCA NO. \,& A An ordinance relating to the fire protection of the city of Averett, regulating the care and storage of explosives and com- bustible materials, regulating the keeping and disposal of ashes, coals, straw, and other combustible and inflammable materials, repealing Ordinances numbers 49, 52, 371 and 698 of the city of i verett, and declaring an emergency. T rA CITY OF J VJi RtTT DOr:S ORDAIN: CARA AND STORAGA OF AXPLOSIVAS. Section 1: The keeping, having or storing within the city of Averett of nitro-glycerine in any quantity whatsoever, or of gunpowder,blasting powder, giant powder, champion powder, or other highly explosive substances in larger total quantities than fifty (50) pounds at any one time and place, and the keeping, having or storing within said city of gunpowder or blasting powder in any other manner than in tin or metal canisters or cases , or in any position contiguous to any fire or lighted lamp or gas jet, or the keeping, having or storing of any such substance in any situation not readily accessible for the removal of the same in case of fire, and the keep- ing, having or storing of any highly explosive or combustible mater- ial or substance in a careless or dangerous manner, is hereby declared to be unlawful; provided, however, that the chief of the fire department may, in his discretion, issue a written permit to store such explosives in larger quantities or in a different manner than herein provided, at such places as he may designate, and under such restrictions and regulations as he may see fit to impose; provid- ed, fur there that nothing in this section shall be deemed to repeal or in any wise affect the provisions of Ordinances numbers 1275 and 1494.
