<br />PGSF WMVD Storm and Combined Sewer - Construction Package 2 Protecting Existing Utilities <br />Project No. 180162 02 01 20 - 1 <br /> <br />SECTION 02 01 20 <br />PROTECTING EXISTING UTILITIES <br />PART 1 GENERAL <br />1.01 DESCRIPTION <br />A. This Section includes materials and procedures for protecting existing underground <br />utilities during performance of the Work. Provide all necessary labor, equipment, <br />material, and services to protect existing utilities. <br />B. Perform Utility location in accordance with Section 02 01 10, Existing Utilities, <br />Coordination and Location. <br />C. Numerous parallel and crossing utilities are in close proximity to the Work which may or <br />may not lie within the Contractor’s excavation/trench zone. The cost of protection, <br />supporting, verification of condition (Pre- or Post-construction) and repair or replacement <br />of damaged or disturbed facilities will be at the expense of the Contractor and included in <br />the bid item to which the Work is appurtenant. <br />1. Utilities shall be maintained in service at all times unless otherwise specified. Any <br />disruption of service must be coordinated with and approved by the Utility Owner in <br />writing. <br />2. Where necessary, provide temporary service and maintain service with bypass or <br />highlining operations as necessary to maintain service. <br />3. Any disruption of service shall be the responsibility of the Contractor. <br />D. Protecting existing underground utilities. <br />1. Where required to perform the work, shoring shall be provided to maintain side <br />support as the trench is excavated. The Contractor shall be responsible for the design <br />of support systems and any costs for replacing utilities that are damaged as a result <br />of their activities. <br />2. Provide necessary designs for sheeting, shoring, and other protection in accordance <br />with Section 31 50 00, Excavation Support and Protection. <br />E. Protecting existing overhead utilities <br />1. Where work is performed near existing overhead utilities, coordinate work to meet <br />safety requirements, prevent schedule delays or damage to utilities. <br />F. Utility Relocation <br />1. Relocate existing utility as required to complete the Work. Cost of relocation shall be <br />included in the associated bid items and included in the submitted construction <br />schedule. <br />1.02 RELATED SECTIONS <br />A.
