Coarse Aggregate: <br />a. Coarse aggregate shall be hard, dense and durable gravel or crushed rock free <br />from injurious amounts of soft and friable particles, alkali, and organic matter. <br />Other deleterious substances shall not exceed the limits listed in ASTM C33, <br />Table 4 for Class Designation 4S. Gradation of each coarse aggregate size <br />specified shall conform to ASTM C33, Table 3. <br />b. Variations from the specified gradations will be acceptable in individual tests if <br />the average of three consecutive tests is within the specified limits. <br />E. Pozzolan: <br />1. Pozzolan shall be Class F fly ash conforming to ASTM C618. Class C fly ash is not <br />allowed. Pozzolan supplied during the life of the project shall have been formed at <br />the same single source. See Change of Materials paragraph below. <br />2. The pozzolan color shall not substantially alter the resulting concrete from the normal <br />gray color and appearance. <br />3. Use pozzolan materials that are of the same brand and type and from the same plant <br />of manufacture as the materials used in the concrete represented by the submitted <br />field test records or used in the trial mixtures. <br />4. The loss on ignition shall be a maximum of four percent. <br />5. The maximum percent of sulfur trioxide (SO3) shall be 4.0 <br />F. Admixtures: <br />1. General: <br />a. Admixtures shall be compatible with the concrete and with each other. Calcium <br />chloride or admixtures containing calcium chloride are not acceptable. Use <br />admixtures in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations and add <br />separately to the concrete mix. Water reducing retarders and admixtures shall <br />reduce the water required by at least 11 percent for a given concrete consistency <br />and shall comply with the water/cement ratio standards of ACI 211.1. Retarder <br />dosage shall result in set time consistent with requirements specified in Part 3. <br />2. Water Reducing Admixtures: <br />a. Conform to ASTM C494, Type A. Acceptable products include: BASF Corporation <br />“MasterPozzolith Series”; SIKA Chemical Corp. “Plastocrete 161”; Euclid <br />Chemical Co. “Eucon WR 91”; or approved equal. <br />3. Water Reducing and Retarding Admixtures: <br />a. Conform to ASTM C494, Type D. Acceptable products include: BASF Corporation <br />“MasterSet R Series”; Sika Chemical Corp. “Plastiment”; Euclid Chemical Co. <br />“Eucon Retarder 75”; or approved equal.
