High Range Water Reducing (Superplasticizing) Admixtures: <br />a. Conform to ASTM C494, Type F. Acceptable products include: BASF Corporation <br />“MasterGlenium” Series; Sika Chemical Corp. “Viscocrete 2100” or “Viscocrete <br />2110” (Hot Weather) or “Viscocrete 6100” (Cold Weather); Euclid Chemical Co. <br />“Eucon 37”; GCP Applied Technologies “ADVA 195”; or approved equal. <br />5. High Range Water Reducing And Retarding Admixtures: <br />a. Conform to ASTM C494, Type G. Acceptable products include: GCP Applied <br />Technologies “Daracem 100”; Sika Chemical Corp. “Sikaplast 200” ; Euclid <br />Chemical Co. “Eucon 537”; or approved equal. <br />6. Air Entraining Agent: <br />a. Conform to ASTM C260 and produce air entrained concrete as specified in the <br />Mix Proportioning table below. Acceptable products include: BASF Corporation <br />“MasterAir Series”; Sika Chemical Corp. “Sika AEA-14” or “Sika AIR” ; Euclid <br />Chemical Co. “Eucon AEA-92”; or approved equal. <br />7. Shrinkage Reducing Admixture: <br />a. Select admixture for compatibility with air entrainment admixture and other <br />ingredients in the concrete mix. Acceptable products include: BASF Corporation <br />“MasterLife SRA Series”; GCP Applied Technologies “Eclipse 4500”; or approved <br />equal. <br />8. Corrosion Inhibiting Admixture: <br />a. Select admixture for compatibility with other ingredients in the concrete mix. <br />Acceptable products include: BASF “MasterLife CI 222”, GCP Applied <br />Technologies “DCI S”, or approved equal. <br />G. Water: <br />1. For washing aggregate, mixing, and for curing shall be free from oil and deleterious <br />amounts of acids, alkalis, and organic materials; comply with the requirements of <br />ASTM C1602. Additionally, water used for curing shall not contain an amount of <br />impurities sufficient to discolor the concrete. <br />H. Change of Materials: <br />1. After each concrete mix design is approved, no changes of any sort or source will be <br />allowed without prior written approval from the Engineer. When brand, type, size, or <br />source of cementitious materials, aggregates, water, ice, or admixtures are proposed <br />to be changed, new field data, data from new trial mixtures, or evidence that <br />indicates that the change will not affect adversely the relevant properties of the <br />concrete shall be submitted for approval by the Engineer before use in concrete. <br />2.02 CONCRETE CHARACTERISTICS <br />A. Mix Proportioning: <br />1. Concrete shall be normal weight concrete composed of cement, pozzolan, <br />admixtures, aggregates, and water; proportioned and mixed to produce a workable, <br />strong, dense, and impermeable concrete. It is acceptable to substitute interground <br />Portland-pozzolan cement conforming to ASTM C595, containing the specified <br />amount of pozzolan in lieu of Portland cement and pozzolan. Water-cementitious <br />material (w/cm) ratio is based on the combined contents of cement and pozzolan. <br />2. Add corrosion inhibiting admixture to Class A, C-1, and C-2 mixes.
