Repair surface defects and otherwise leave the surfaces as they come from the <br />forms, except plug tie holes and repair or remove defects greater than 1/2 inch <br />in any dimension. <br />C. Sample Of Formed Surface Finish A: <br />1. Provide a sample concrete panel, minimum 4 feet by 4 feet; representative of formed <br />surface Finish A. The panel shall be representative of the workmanship and finish <br />required, including repair of defects, filling of tie holes, sandblasting, and rubbing. <br />2. The sample shall be approved by the Owner’s Representative prior to the start of <br />production work. The sample shall be on display at the job site, and finished surfaces <br />shall match sample. <br />3.12 SLAB FINISHES <br />A. General: <br />1. The finishes specified herein include surface finishes, treatments and toppings for <br />floors and slabs. Do not use dry cement on new concrete surfaces to absorb excess <br />moisture. Round edges to a radius of 1/2 inch. <br />2. Slope floors to drain uniformly within a room or space. Unless otherwise specified, <br />slope shall be a minimum of 1/8 inch per foot toward nearest drain. Restrict use of <br />floor drains with only locally depressed slabs to locations specifically noted. <br />3. Immediately after final finish is applied, the surface shall be cured and protected as <br />specified in Curing, Sealing, and Protection paragraphs above. <br />4. Where finish is not specified, floor slabs shall receive a Steel Trowel Finish. <br />B. Float Finish: <br />1. Perform floating with a hand or power-driven float in accordance with ACI 301. Begin <br />floating when the bleed water sheen has disappeared and the surface has stiffened <br />sufficiently. Float as required to meet tolerance requirements of ACI 117 for a <br />conventional surface. <br />2. Floating shall close cracks and checks plus compact and smooth the surface. Refloat <br />the slab to a uniform texture. <br />3. Apply float finish to surfaces of channels, tank bottom slabs, exterior below grade <br />horizontal surfaces, including tops of footings, and surfaces to receive insulation or <br />roofing. <br />C. Steel Trowel Finish: <br />1. Float the concrete surface as indicated above and then trowel in accordance with <br />ACI 301. <br />2. Provide Steel Trowel Finish on interior exposed floors and slabs that will receive <br />resilient fooring, carpet or ceramic tile, unless specified otherwise.
