I <br /> 1 <br /> t 2 This section is supplemented with the following new paragraph: <br /> 3 <br /> 4 The requirements of Section 1-06.6 do not apply to the portland cement and fine aggregate <br /> I 5 used in sand slurry. <br /> 6 <br /> 7 5-04.3(5)C Crack Sealing <br /> I 8 This section's content is deleted and replaced with the following new subsections: <br /> 9 <br /> 10 5-04.3(5)C1 General <br /> Ii 1 When the Proposal includes a pay item for crack sealing, all cracks and joints 1/4 inch in <br /> 12 width and greater shall be sealed. Cracks and joints shall be thoroughly clean, dry and free <br /> 13 of all loose and foreign material when filled with crack sealant material. Immediately prior to <br /> I 14 filling a crack or joint with the sealant material a hot air lance shall be used to dry and warm <br /> 15 the pavement surfaces within the crack or joint. Pavement shall not be overheated and <br /> 16 direct flame dryers shall not be used. Routing cracks and joints is not required. <br /> 17 <br /> I18 Where cracks and joints are to be filled with sand slurry thoroughly mix the components <br /> 19 and pour the mixture into the cracks and joints until full. Additional CSS-1 emulsified <br /> 20 asphalt may be added to the sand slurry as needed for the mixture to be workable to <br /> I <br /> 21 completely fill the crack or joint. Strike off the sand slurry flush with the existing pavement <br /> 22 surface and allow the mixture to cure. Cracks or joints that were not completely filled shall <br /> 23 be topped off with additional sand slurry. Do not place the HMA overlay until the slurry has <br /> I 24 fully cured. <br /> 25 <br /> 26 Where cracks and joints are to be filled with hot poured sealant the material shall be <br /> I 27 applied in accordance with these requirements and the manufacturer's recommendations. <br /> 28 The manufacturer's recommendations shall be furnished to the Engineer prior to the start of <br /> 29 work and shall include recommended heating time and temperatures, allowable storage <br /> I <br /> 30 <br /> 31 time and temperatures after initial heating, allowable reheating criteria, and application <br /> temperature range. <br /> 32 <br /> I33 Crack sealing with hot poured sealants shall be controlled to confine the material within the <br /> 34 crack or joint. Any overflow of sealant shall be cleaned from the pavement surface. If, in <br /> 35 the opinion of the Engineer, the Contractor's method of sealing the cracks and joints with <br /> 36 hot poured sealant results in an excessive amount of material on the pavement surface, the <br /> 37 operation shall be stopped and corrected to eliminate the excess material. <br /> 38 <br /> 39 5-04.3(5)C2 Crack Sealing Areas Prior to Paving <br /> I 40 In areas where HMA will be placed the cracks and joints shall be filled with sand slurry. <br /> 41 <br /> 42 5-04.3(5)C3 Crack Sealing Areas Not to be Paved <br /> I 43 In areas where HMA will not be placed the cracks and joints shall be filled as follows: <br /> 44 <br /> 45 1. Cracks 1/4 inch to 1 inch in width shall be filled with hot poured sealant. <br /> I 46 <br /> 47 2. Cracks and joints greater than 1 inch in width shall be filled with sand slurry. <br /> 48 <br /> I 49 5-04.3(5)C4 Crack Sealing Areas Prior to a Bituminous Surface Treatment <br /> 50 In areas where a BST will be placed the cracks and joints shall be filled per Section 5- <br /> 51 04.3(5)C3. <br /> I52 <br /> I <br /> RIVERFRONT DEVELOPMENT NORTH WETLAND COMPLEX 3 <br />
