2.1.4 Element 4: Install Sediment Controls
Describe how you will minimize sediment discharges from the site. Construct sediment control
BMPs as one of the first steps of grading. These BMPs must be functional before other land
disturbing activities — especially grading and filling —take place.
Describe the BMPs identified to filter sediment prior to it being discharged to an infiltration
system or leaving the construction site.
Describe how you will direct stormwater for maximum infiltration where feasible.
Describe how you will not interfere with the movement of juvenile Salmonids attempting to enter
off-channel areas or drainages.
Describe how you will respond if sediment controls are ineffective and turbid water is observed
discharging from the site.
Consider the amount, frequency, intensity and duration of precipitation, soil characteristics, and
site characteristics when selecting sediment control BMPs.
List and describe BMPs:
All stormwater runoff from disturbed areas shall pass through an appropriate sediment removal
BMP before leaving the construction site. The specific BMPs to be used for controlling
sediment on this project include:
• Silt Fence (BMP C233)
• Straw Wattles (BMP C235)
• Storm Drain Inlet Protection (BMP C220)
• Construction Stormwater Chemical Treatment (BMP C250)
• Construction Stormwater Filtration (BMP C251)
• Check Dams (BMP C207)
• Interceptor Dike and Swale (BMP C200)
Silt fence will be stockpiled on site for use as needed. As runoff patterns emerge throughout
construction, the need for installation will be evaluated on site by the contractor CESCL, the
resident engineer, and the Boeing Everett Environmental Affairs CESCL. Silt fence serves to
reduce the transport of coarse sediment from construction sites by providing a physical barrier
to sediment and reducing runoff velocities. Silt fence is not intended to treat concentrated flow
or remove fine sediment. Straw wattles will be installed around regions of the construction area
at the discretion of the resident engineer, contractor CESCL, and Boeing Everett Environmental
Affairs CESCL. Wattles can reduce the velocity of runoff, spread sheet flow, and capture and
retain sediment.
Storm drain inlet protection will be provided at all catch basins within the construction site and at
outfalls. In addition, sediment will be removed from paved areas in and adjacent to
Page 1 13
