May 30, 2012 <br /> COUNCIL BRIEFING AGENDA <br /> Read nominations of candidates for interim appointment for <br /> Position 5 of Everett City Council <br /> President Gipson reviewed the process he established for filling the <br /> vacant seat on the council. He reported that ten letters had been received <br /> from citizens interested in the interim appointment. After assuring that all <br /> council members had received copies of all ten applications, President <br /> Gipson asked that their nominations be passed forward to him, opened <br /> the nominations, and reported that Council Members Moore, Stonecipher, <br /> Affholter, Hatloe and Gipson nominated Gigi Burke. Council Member <br /> Roberts nominated Reid Shockey. <br /> President Gipson thanked all of the applicants for their willingness to <br /> serve, and thanked his fellow council members for their patience and <br /> understanding during the process. He then inquired whether any council <br /> member felt the need for an executive session to discuss the nominees' <br /> qualifications. No council member requested discussion of qualifications. <br /> Council Member Roberts stated that Gigi Burke is eminently qualified and <br /> that he would be happy to now support her nomination in order to make <br /> her nomination unanimous and bring unity to council. <br /> Discussion regarding process and expedience followed. City Attorney Iles <br /> reiterated that the nominee would need to be sworn in before June 11th <br /> President Gipson deferred to the other council members and City Attorney <br /> Iles, indicating he would entertain a motion to take action on Ms. Burke's <br /> nomination. <br /> Moved by Council Member Stonecipher, seconded by Council <br /> Member Roberts, to accept Gigi Burke to fill the interim position No. <br /> 5 until the November election is certified for that position. <br /> Roll was called with all council members voting yes, except Council <br /> Member Hatloe who was excused. <br /> Motion carried. <br /> 146 <br />
