I <br /> 1 <br /> 1 <br /> 2 Installation shall involve the placement of fiber optic cables in a specified inner duct <br /> 3 as defined in the Plans. The Contractor shall ensure that inner ducts are secured <br /> 4 to prevent movement during the cable installation process. <br /> 5 1 6 The pulling eye/sheath termination hardware on the fiber optic cables shall not be <br /> 7 pulled over any sheave blocks. <br /> 8 <br /> 9 When power equipment is used to install fiber optic cabling, the pulling speed shall <br /> 10 not exceed 100 feet per minute. The pulling tension limitation for fiber optic cables <br /> 11 shall not be exceeded under any circumstances. <br /> 12111 13 Large diameter wheels, pulling sheaves, and cable guides shall be used to <br /> 14 maintain the appropriate bending radius. Tension monitoring shall be accomplished <br /> 15 using commercial dynamometers or load-cell instruments. <br /> 16 II <br /> 17 Fiber optic cable lubricant shall be used to reduce pulling tensions for the <br /> 18 installation of each fiber optic cable. <br /> 19 <br /> 20 Patch Cords <br /> 21 The Contractor shall provide 2 patch cords, 6' in length, for each patch panel. <br /> 22 Connections shall be LC\UPC type and shall be terminated by the manufacturer. III <br /> 23 <br /> 24 Fiber Optic Cable Splicing <br /> 25 Field splices shall be located as shown in the plans. No additional splices will beI <br /> 26 allowed without the approval of the Engineer. <br /> 27 <br /> 28 All fusion splicing equipment shall be in good working order, properly calibrated, <br /> 29 and meeting all industry standards and safety regulations. Cable preparation, <br /> 30 closure installation and splicing shall be accomplished in accordance with accepted <br /> 31 and approved industry standards. <br /> 32 <br /> 33 Upon completion of the splicing operation, all waste material shall be deposited in <br /> 34 suitable containers for fiber optic disposal, removed from the job site, and disposed <br /> 35 of in an environmentally acceptable manner. <br /> 36 <br /> 37 The Contractor shall use the fusion method for fiber optic splicing. Acceptable <br /> 38 fusion splicing techniques are: <br /> 39 <br /> 40 Local Injections and Detection <br /> 41 Profile Alignment System <br /> 42 <br /> 43 The Contractor shall seal all cables where the cable jacket is removed. The cable <br /> 44 shall be sealed per the cable manufacturer's recommendation with an approved <br /> 45 blocking material. <br /> 46 <br /> 47 The Contractor shall seal all buffer tubes with an approved blocking material to <br /> 48 prevent migration of gel into splice trays. <br /> 49 <br /> 50 All splices shall be contained in splice trays utilizing strain relief, such as heat <br /> 51 shrink wraps, as recommended by the splice tray manufacturer. <br /> 41st STREET TO WMVD FREIGHT <br /> CORRIDOR IMPROVEMENTS <br /> FED AID#STPUL-9931(012); PW#3472 SP-106 February 10,2016 <br />
