I <br /> I <br /> 1 between the conduits in dual conduit installations or on top of conduits for <br /> I 2 single conduit installations. <br /> 3 <br /> 4 Communication Cables And Interfaces <br /> 15 <br /> 6 Cable Installation - General <br /> 7 The Contractor shall determine a suitable cable installation method to ensure that <br /> I 8 all cable installation requirements shall be met in all conduit sections. All work <br /> 9 shall be carried out in accordance and consistent with the highest standards of <br /> 10 quality and craftsmanship in the communication industry with regard to the <br /> 11 electrical and mechanical integrity of the connections; the finished appearance of <br /> I 12 the installation; as well as the accuracy and completeness of the documentation. <br /> 13 <br /> 14 The Contractor shall make a physical survey of the project site for the purpose of <br /> I 15 establishing the exact cable routing and cutting lengths prior to the commencement <br /> 16 of any fiber optic work or committing any fiber optic materials. Splicing is only <br /> 17 allowed for the programmed connection of reels and as shown in the Plans to <br /> I 18 connect a lateral fiber optic cable to the mainline distribution fiber optic cable. The <br /> 19 Contractor shall submit a cable routing plan that shows the locations of all splices. <br /> 20 All splice locations other than those shown in the Plans must be approved by the <br /> I 21 Engineer. <br /> 22 <br /> 23 All work areas shall be clean and orderly at the completion of work and at times <br /> 24 required by the Engineer during the progress of work. <br /> I 25 <br /> 26 Fiber Optic Cable Installation <br /> 27 Fiber optic cables shall be installed in continuous lengths without intermediate <br /> I 28 splices throughout the project, except at the location(s) specified in the Plans, or as <br /> 29 approved in writing by the Engineer. <br /> 30 <br /> I 31 The Contractor shall comply with the cable manufacturer's specifications and <br /> 32 recommended procedures including, but not limited to the following: <br /> 33 <br /> I 34 1. Installation. <br /> 35 2. Proper attachment to the cable strength elements for pulling during <br /> 36 installation. <br /> I 37 3. Bi-directional pulling. <br /> 38 4. Cable tensile limitations and the tension monitoring procedure. <br /> 39 5. Cable bending radius limitations. <br /> 40 <br /> I 41 The Contractor shall protect the loops from tangling or kinking. At no time during <br /> 42 the length of the project shall the cable's minimum bending radius specification be <br /> 43 violated. <br /> I 44 <br /> 45 To accommodate long, continuous installation lengths, bi-directional pulling of the <br /> 46 fiber optic cable shall be permitted. <br /> I 47 <br /> 48 In all cable vaults, pull boxes, and at all splice locations cable slack of 50 feet shall <br /> 49 be left by the Contractor, unless otherwise specified in the Plans.
