I <br /> 1 9-13.AP9 <br /> 2 Section 9-13, Riprap, Quarry Spalls, Slope Protection, and Rock for Erosion I <br /> 3 and Scour Protection and Rock Walls <br /> 4 January 5, 2015 I <br /> 5 This section's content is deleted. <br /> 6 <br /> 7 9-13.1 Loose Riprap <br /> 8 This section's content, including title and subsections, is revised to read the following: <br /> 9 <br /> 10 9-13.1 Riprap and Quarry Spalls <br /> 11 <br /> 12 9-13.1(1) General <br /> 13 Riprap and quarry spalls shall consist of broken stone or broken concrete rubble <br /> 14 and shall be free of rock fines, soil, or other extraneous material. Concrete rubble <br /> 15 shall not be contaminated by foreign materials such as fibers, wood, steel, asphalt, <br /> 16 sealant, soil, plastic and other contaminants or deleterious material. Concrete <br /> 17 rubble that is imported to the job site will require testing and certification for toxicity <br /> 18 characteristics per Section 9-03.21(1). <br /> 19 1 20 The grading of the riprap shall be determined by the Engineer by visual inspection <br /> 21 of the load before it is dumped into place, or, if so ordered by the Engineer, by <br /> 22 dumping individual loads on a flat surface and sorting and measuring the individual <br /> 23 rocks contained in the load. Should the riprap contain insufficient spalls, as defined <br /> 24 in Section 9-13.1(5), the Contractor shall furnish and place supplementary spall <br /> 25 material. <br /> 26 <br /> 27 Riprap and quarry spalls shall be free from segregation, seams, cracks, and other <br /> 28 defects tending to destroy its resistance to weather and shall conform to the <br /> 29 following requirements for quality. <br /> 30 <br /> Aggregate Property Test Method Requirement <br /> Degradation Factor WSDOT T 113 15 minimum <br /> Los Angeles Wear, 500 Rev. AASHTO T 96 50% maximum <br /> Specific Gravity, SSD AASHTO T 85 2.55 minimum <br /> 31 <br /> 32 9-13.1(2) Heavy Loose Riprap <br /> 33 Heavy loose riprap shall meet the following requirements for grading: <br /> 34 1 Minimum Size Maximum Size <br /> 40% to 90% 1 ton (1/2 cubic yd.) <br /> 70% to 90% 300 lbs. (2 cu. ft.) <br /> 10% to 30% 3 inch 50 lbs.
