1 <br /> 1 <br /> I 2 At the Contractor's request the Engineer may approve paving without an MTDN; the <br /> 3 Engineer will determine if an equitable adjustment in cost or time is due. <br /> 4 <br /> 5 In the last sentence of the second paragraph, "Project Engineer" is revised to read <br /> 1 6 "Engineer". <br /> 7 <br /> 8 5-04.3(5)A Preparation of Existing Surfaces <br /> 1 9 The first sentence of the last paragraph is revised to read: <br /> 10 <br /> 11 Unless otherwise approved by the Engineer, the tack coat shall be CSS-1 or CSS-1h <br /> I 12 emulsified asphalt. <br /> 13 <br /> 14 5-04.3(7) Preparation of Aggregates <br /> I 15 This section is revised to read: <br /> 16 <br /> 17 The aggregates, RAP and RAS shall be stockpiled according to the requirements of <br /> 18 Section 3-02. Sufficient storage space shall be provided for each size of aggregate, <br /> 19 RAP and RAS. The Contractor may uniformly blend fine aggregate or RAP with the <br /> 20 RAS as a method of preventing the agglomeration of RAS particles. The aggregates, <br /> I 21 RAP and RAS shall be removed from stockpile(s) in a manner to ensure minimal <br /> 22 segregation when being moved to the HMA plant for processing into the final mixture. <br /> 23 Different aggregate sizes shall be kept separated until they have been delivered to the <br /> 24 HMA plant. <br /> 1 25 <br /> 26 5-04.3(7)A1 General <br /> 27 This section is revised to read: <br /> I 28 <br /> 29 An approved mix design, listed on the Qualified Products List (QPL), is required for all <br /> 30 HMA paving. The Contractor shall develop a mix design prior to the initial production of <br /> I 31 HMA and no more than 3 months prior to submitting for QPL evaluation. The mix design <br /> 32 shall be developed in accordance with WSDOT Standard Operating Procedure 732 and <br /> 33 meet the requirements of Sections 9-03.8(2) and 9-03.8(6). <br /> I 34 <br /> 35 Mix designs shall be submitted by the Contractor to the WSDOT State Materials <br /> 36 Laboratory on WSDOT Form 350-042EF. If the mix design is approved it will be listed <br /> I 37 on the QPL for up to 24 consecutive months. Mix designs not listed on the QPL or past <br /> 38 the 24 month approved period shall not be used. After a mix design has been on the <br /> 39 QPL for 12 months the listing will be extended provided the Contractor submits a <br /> 40 certification letter to the Qualified Products Engineer verifying that the aggregate and <br /> I41 asphalt binder have not changed. The Contractor may submit the certification one <br /> 42 month prior to expiration of the mix design approval. Within 7 calendar days of receipt of <br /> 43 the Contractor's certification the QPL will be updated. The maximum duration for <br /> 1 44 approval of a mix design and listing on the QPL will be 24 months from the date of initial <br /> 45 approval or as approved by the Engineer. <br /> 46 <br /> I 47 Changes to the job mix formula of a mix design may require the development of a new <br /> 48 mix design and resubmittal for QPL approval. <br /> 49 <br /> 50 Changes to aggregate that may require a new mix design include the source of material <br /> 51 or a change in the percentage of material from a stockpile greater than 5 percent. <br /> I <br /> I AMENDMENTS TO THE 2014 STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS BOOK <br /> Revised: 8/3/15 <br />
