I
1 Roadway cores for density may be obtained by either the Contracting Agency or the
I
2
3 Contractor in accordance with WSDOT SOP 734. The core diameter shall be 4-inches
unless otherwise approved by the Engineer. Roadway cores will be tested by the
4 Contracting Agency in accordance with WSDOT FOP for AASHTO T 166.
I
5
6 If the Contract includes the Bid item "Roadway Core" the cores shall be obtained by the
7 Contractor in the presence of the Engineer on the same day the mix is placed and at
8 locations designated by the Engineer. If the Contract does not include the Bid item
I
9 "Roadway Core" the Contracting Agency will obtain the cores.
10
11 In the sixth paragraph (after the preceding Amendments are applied), the second sentence
I 12 is revised to read:
13
14 Sublots will be uniform in size with a maximum sublot size based on original Plan
I
15 quantity tons of HMA as specified in the table below.
16
17 The following new table is inserted before the second to last paragraph:
I 18
HMA Original Plan Quantity (tons) Sublot Size (tons)
<20,000 100
I _ 20,000 to 30,000 150
>30,000 200
19
20 5-04.3(10)84 Test Results
I21 The first paragraph is revised to read:
22
23 The results of all compaction acceptance testing and the CPF of the lot after three
1
24 sublots have been tested will be available to the Contractor through WSDOT's website.
25 Determination of the relative density of the HMA with a nuclear density gauge requires a
26 correlation factor and may require resolution after the correlation factor is known. When
127 a core is taken for gauge correlation at the location of a sublot, the relative density of
28 the core will be used for the sublot test result and is exempt from retesting. Acceptance
29 of HMA compaction will be based on the statistical evaluation and CPF so determined.
I 30
31 In the second paragraph, the first sentence is revised to read:
32
I 33 For a sublot that has been tested with a nuclear density gauge that did not meet the
34 minimum of 91 percent of the reference maximum density in a compaction lot with a
35 CPF below 1.00 and thus subject to a price reduction or rejection, the Contractor may
36 request that a core be used for determination of the relative density of the sublot.
I37
38 In the second sentence of the second paragraph, "moisture-density" is revised to read
39 "density".
1 40
41 In the second paragraph, the fourth sentence is deleted.
42
I 43 5-04.3(20) Anti-Stripping Additive
44 This section is revised to read:
45
I 46 Anti-stripping additive shall be added to the liquid asphalt by the asphalt supplier prior to
47 shipment to the asphalt mixing plant. Anti-stripping additive shall be added in the
I
I AMENDMENTS TO THE 2014 STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS BOOK
Revised: 8/3/15
