The historic working waterfront of Everett has undergone profound changed
circumstances in recent times. The shore lands of Everett and other Puget Sound waterfront
City's in the region have seen once vibrant industrial areas close and they have watched as the
land has become underutilized.
3. At the same time the original assumptions on which current land use policy was based is
not in error. Rather the Port is interested in and says it is trying to relocate existing industrial
uses currently in the subject area. The City is fully supportive of the Port's efforts to help keep
these important businesses viable and competitive within the City of Everett.
3. Recent trends in public opinion toward water access for recreation and commercial use
have increased in recent times as documented in the recently passed Everett Shoreline Public
Access Plan which called for and laid out a clear strategy to increase public access to Everett's
"world class" shorelines.
