RESOLUTION NO. 6802 <br /> A Resolution Naming the Bike/Pedestrian Trail in North Everett <br /> "Mill Town Trail" <br /> WHEREAS, in phases over a number of years, the City has constructed a continuous <br /> wide sidewalk which starts on East Grand Avenue at Everett Avenue and runs north <br /> along East Marine View Drive and south along West Marine View Drive to Junction <br /> Beach at Pigeon Creek; and <br /> WHEREAS, this route is a trail for bicycles and pedestrians offering river and <br /> waterfront views which currently draws a number of users, but has no name which would <br /> allow it to be promoted and marketed; and <br /> WHEREAS, Mayor Stephanson received a proposal from 119 residents of the City of <br /> Everett proposing to name this recreational bike/pedestrian trail "Sawdust Trail" so that <br /> the trail may be promoted and celebrated as an amenity of the city; and <br /> WHEREAS, in September 2012 City Council adopted Resolution No. 6537, A <br /> Resolution Establishing a Policy on Public Place Names and Name Changes, which <br /> authorizes City Council to designate the names of city buildings, streets,public places, <br /> facilities and natural features by resolution. <br /> WHEREAS,the criteria to be used by City Council in making a decision include <br /> criterion I, which states, "{A} proposed name...may reflect the geographical location, <br /> historical or cultural significance...." <br /> WHEREAS, the Transportation Advisory Committee reviewed this proposal on <br /> September 18, 2014, and recommended naming the trail with a name that has historic <br /> reference, but did not endorse the name "Sawdust Trail;" and <br /> WHEREAS, on October 18, 2014, Historical Commission held a public hearing on the <br /> proposal and recommended that the trail be named, have a name with a historic <br /> reference, and that the City Council name the trail one of the following names: "Mill <br /> Town Trail," "Sawmill Trail," or"Historic Mill Trail;" and <br />
