other appropriate sediment removal BMP wili be utilized if surface water runoff is expected to
leave the subject site. Sediment ponds, vegetated buffer strips, sediment barriers or filters,
dikes and other BMPs intended to trap sediment onsite will be constructed during initial
grading activities. In addition, seeding and mulching for earthen structures such as dams, dikes,
and diversions according to the timing indicated in Element #5. The specific BMPs to be used
for controlling sediment on this project include:
• BMP C233: Silt Fence
• BMP C234: Vegetated Strip
• BMP C235: Straw Wattles
• BMP C150: Materials On Hand
• BMP 101: Preserve Natural Vegetation
• BMP C162: Scheduling
3.1.5 Element #5 — Stabilize Soils
Stabilize all exposed and unworked soils by applying approved BMPs that protect the soil from
wind, rain, and flowing water. Selected soil stabilization measures must be appropriate for the
time of year, site conditions, estimated duration of use, and the water quality impacts that
stabilization agents may have on downstream waters or groundwater.
When stockpiled soil becomes saturated, they are especially vulnerable to slumping and must
be stabilized and protected using sediment trapping BMPs. Plastic sheeting may be necessary
on silty stockpiles, as it can prevent soil saturation. Cover soil that is not being worked,
whether at final grade or not, within the following time limits, using approved soil cover
practices. No soils shall remain exposed and unworked for more than seven days during the dry
season (May 1 through September 30) and two days during the wet season (October 1 through
April 30). Regardless of the time of year, all soils shall be stabilized at the end of the shift
before a holiday or weekend if needed, based on weather forecasts.
During dry periods, fugitive dust from construction activities on the site will be controlled by a
water truck.
TESC Plan and SWPPP 2 June 2015
American Legion Memorial Park Page 9
