I believe that
the issue is a dispute solely between the owners and their insurance company - the owners
desire the insurance company to replace the entire roof and (possibly) interior damage
stemming from the continued weathering and degradation of the interior allowed by the
damaged roof (and perhaps the improper/inadequate temporary roof covering). I do not know
the extent the insurance company intends or has offered to cover.
Some key points:
- A permit to repair the fire damage (roof) was applied for on June 27, 2006 by the
owners contractor. The plans were prepared for Sound Loss and Claims (David Griffiths) on
behalf of the owner.
- The permit was processed and available to be picked up on July 5, 2006 but was not
picked up by the owners/contractor until October 25, 2006. There have been no revisions
to the originally submitted and approved plans by any person or agency to include the
city, insurance agency, contractors, engineers or owners.
- There have been no inspections called for by the owners/contractor to date for this
permit.
- No party has asked us to stop work, rescind the permit or revise the approved plans.
- We had a meeting with a Mr. Jack Feingold (approx. July 06) who was retained by Farmers
Insurance Company to look into the scope of work. His question to us was if the city
requires the entire roof be removed. My answer was that we would only require the repair
of the damaged portions of the structure and that the non-damaged portions could remain.
Such a determination would need to be verified by an engineering assessment. We have had
no contact with Mr. Feingold since that meeting.
- We do not believe that any work has yet commenced as evidenced by the plastic tarp that
remains on the roof.
Thanks, Tony
-----Original Message-----
From: Susan Clark
Sent: Friday, March 02, 2007 2:51 PM
To: Tony Lee
Subject: Emailing: letter to Mayor.pdf
Hi Tony --
Per my voicemail message, please provide Jim any information you have regarding this
issue.
Thanks,
Sue
1
