January 23, 2013
The regular meeting of the Everett City Council was called to order at
12:30 p.m., January 23, 2013 in the City Council Chambers of the Everett
City Hall, Council President Moore presiding. Upon roll call it was found
that Mayor Stephanson and Council Members Roberts, Moore, Murphy,
Gipson, Bader, and Affholter were present. Council Member Stonecipher
was excused.
Council Member Gipson led the Pledge of Allegiance.
The minutes of the January 16, 2013 Everett City Council meeting were
approved as printed. Council Member Gipson abstained from the vote.
MAYOR
The Mayor had no comments.
COUNCIL
Council Member Roberts stated that the Transportation Advisory
Committee has had further discussion regarding security between
Broadway and the Everett Station and dialogue is planned with Sound
Transit, Everett Transit, and the Everett Police Department regarding this
issue. He remarked that Joni Earl, Sound Transit, has been scheduled to
speak to the city council on February 27, 2013.
Council Member Roberts requested an update regarding the demolition of
the fire damaged building on Hewitt Avenue. Tony Lee, Building Official,
explained that the building in question shares a load-bearing wall with the
building at 1812 Hewitt. If the building is demolished, both buildings
would come down. The Hearing Examiner issued a violation citation and
an order, which requires the demolition to be completed no later than
March 15, 2013. Currently, a permit application has been approved for a
temporary wall inside 1812 Hewitt, which would allow the wall between the
two structures to be removed safely. There has been no demolition
application submitted at this time.
24
