The steel frame work of the sign awning is severely rusted. This deterioration has structurally compromised the assembly. This is an unsafe condition as outlined by IPMC (code section 304.1.1 subsection 11) The si�n awnin� was originally designed to provide weather protection for the florescent lightin� fixtures mounted on the building at this location. The lighting fixtures are now exposed to the elements and are no longer protected. This is a violation of the National Electric Code, and the IPMC code section 108.1.2 The exposed lighting fixtures are defined as "Unsafe equipment". I conducted a permit search for the awning as requested. I did locate a permit record in our microfiche files for the awning. Permit # 23257 issued 10/04/1989. I encourage and support the abatement of these conditions and violations. I inspected the sign on September 24, 2015 and found that not only was the canvas cover shredded but the steel frame is rusty and appears structurally unsafe. It is completely rusted in some areas as to become dislodged from the building. Could you check to see if the sign had a permit when it was originally installed?
