GE Business Productivity Solutions, a subsidiary of the
General Electric Company, desires to purchase the franchise in the bankruptcy court proceedings. Failure to approve
the franchise would likely result in diminished competition for telecommunication services in the City. Council
previously approved the transfer, but completion of the transfer from ATGI to GE was delayed. Because the prior
ordinance consenting to the transfer expired, a new ordinance consenting to the transfer is required.
RECOIVIIVIENDATION (Exact action requested of Council):
ADOPT AN ORDINANCE CONSENTING TO TRANSFER OF A TELECOMMUNICATIONS FRANCHISE FROM ADVANCED
TELCOM, INC., DBA ADVANCED TELCOM GROUP, TO GE BUSINESS PRODUCTIVITY SOLUTIONS
