The very long allowed span is the result of using a heavier beam than is necessary and by using fixed-fixed end <br />supports. Using simple-simple end supports leads to 5 times the deflection for the same load. <br />7ransmittin� load to the floor under the basement beam at 3709 Shore Ave <br />In the 5/23/14 referenced memo Geoff takes no exception to using 4" x 7" x%z" steel plates between the existing <br />slab and the post, in lieu of saw cutting and pouring new concrete footers for point loads. Most of the basement <br />beam is now supported by a 2x6" wall and bottom plate underneath, so the load is transmitted at much lower <br />pressure to the concrete floor. The load near all spans in the wall is transmitted to the floor by 2 or more posts <br />on each side with the pressure further reduced via a 2x6" bottom plate. The selected method of supporting the <br />beam loads puts considerably lower pressure on the concrete floor than the method allowed. <br />Page _i of '� � <br />
