Washington Preservation Initiative
2003 Grant Application 4
The nature of this solution is primarily procedural. Grants funding would allow us to
continue the process of archival duplication that we began several years ago.
Without WPI funding, we will not be able to complete their duplication.
There will be little effect on staff time in completing this project, since staff need
only to transport negatives to Crux, pick them up when they are finished and store
them in the library archive. Staff time will be spent adding a number of these
views to the library's CONTENTdm collections, but these hours are being
considered as part of the regular CONTENT additions.
5. Describe any shared or cooperative responsibilities in this project
and the relationship of the partners.
Consider the following questions in developing the response:
• What technology and/or resources will be shared
• What is the customer base for each organization and/or library?
• What strengths does each partner bring to the project?
• How does cooperation contribute to the solution?
• Other relevant factors specific to the situation
Review and Evaluation
This question worth 10 points. Reviewers will look for:
■ Solutions that balance the needs of each partner
• A project scope which is appropriate to the customers of all partners
• A collaboration that offers opportunities for future partnerships
The nature of this project means that we will have no partners. The Everett Public
Library would be paying Crux Conservation to do the necessary work on materials
from our collection alone.
However, archival duplication of panorama prints is difficult, and most heritage
collections contain panoramas in some form (usually prints). EPL's Northwest
Room staff are members of the League of Snohomish County Heritage
Organizations. We will share project results with member organizations and
encourage these groups to care for panorama images in their own collections. A
future partnership project with the League might include adding panorama images
from other Snohomish County collections to our library's website. An LSTA grant
given to place an Everett Massacre collection at our website has created a model
of partnership between EPL and the LSCHO. We have started a new collection of
images called "Places of the Past", a database of Snohomish County's historic
properties, in partnership with the League, so links have been made, and the
cooperative relationship is still strong.
6. Does your library's long-range or strategic plan or needs
assessment include preservation of library materials? If so, please
quote a goal, activity, or strategy.
