EVERETT CULTURAL COMMISSION J
• 2004
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AWARDS
Project Descriptions
TOTAL
EST. PROJECT AMOUNT COMMISSION
APPLICANT ATTED. COST REQUESTED RECOMMEN.
David McCourt/Sponsored by 750-840 $14,670 $2,000 $2000
Everett Theatre Society
Irish Cabaret. "Irish Cabaret" is a cultural program planned around the annual celebration of
St. Patrick's Day. The program involves champion Irish dancers and classical Irish musicians,
along with traditional vocalists, storytelling and examples of Irish humor. Funds will be used to
pay for performer expenses.
Children's Museum 2000-2500 $11,750 $1 ,200 $1,200
Cider in the City. "Cider in the City Family Festival" will be entertaining its fourth year,
bringing hundreds of children and family members to the streets of Everett to enjoy hands-on
crafts, entertainment and Museum admission — all free of charge. The event exposes children
to performance art and visual art, allowing them to participate rather than just watch. These
interactive opportunities help children celebrate and honor our farming roots. The streets in
front of the new Children's Museum, at 1502 Wall Street will feature old fashioned cider
pressing, contests, food and music. Funds will be used to pay visual artist fees.
Village Theatre 8,500 $239,232 $5,000 $2,500
Man of La Mancha. Village Theatre will produce 18 performances of the all ages appropriate
classic, "Man of La Mancha", at the Everett Performing Arts Center, April 30 — May 16, 2004.
Support for this production and for Village Theatre's Main stage season helps to provide top
quality family theater to Everett and the residents of Snohomish County. By having an
established theatre company in Everett, one that produces professional theatre and is highly
regarded in the Pacific Northwest, Everett is raising its profile as a community with a vital
cultural core and will attract many theatregoers from neighboring cities. Funds will be used to
help cover artist's fees.
Village Theatre 2,000 $12,638 $2,500 $1,700
Pied Piper. Village Theatre's Pied Piper program will present "The Nightingale", produced by
The Kennedy Center. There will be two public performances on January 25, 2004, one
including an ASL interpreter. This all ages show reshapes Hans Christian Anderson's classic
tale into a theatrical tour de force filled with dance, color, narrative, humor, action and joy. The
production will provide the general public the opportunity to experience top quality nationally
acclaimed children's theatre. Funding will help cover the artist's fees.
6
