Stroctural fill should consist of <br />clean soils with purticles not larger than four inches and should be free of orgunic and other <br />deleterious substances. Structurui fill should have a moiswre wntent within one percent of its <br />optimum moisture content ut the time of placement. The optimum moisture content is the water <br />content in the soil that enable the soil to bc compacted to the highest dry density for a given <br />compaction effort. The on-site clean till und advance outwash soils may be used 1'or swctwal <br />fill only under fair weather conditions when their moisture content cnn be controlled to near <br />optimum moisturc content ut the time of placement. ImpoAed material to be uscd as structural <br />fill, should be cican, free-drnining, granular soils containing no morc than 5 percent by weight <br />finer tha�i the No. Z00 sieve ba5ed on the fraction of the material passing No. 4 sieve, and should <br />huve individual purticics not lurger than four inches. <br />Thc un-site clean Hsperance Sand suils muy be used ns structuml if their moisturc content can be <br />controlled to within one percent of their optimum moisture content.
