The soil units and the stability <br />of cut slopes should be obscrved and verified by a geotechnicnl engineer during excnvation. <br />Permanent fill embankments reyuircd to sup�rt structurul or tralTic loads should be wnstructed <br />with compacted structur�l till placed over proof-rolled undisturbed, densc to very-dense, fresh <br />Gsperancc Sand deposit aftcr thc surficial unsuitable soils are stripped. Permanent fill to be <br />placed on slopes stecper thun 15°ro grade should bc retained structurally. Sloping ground over <br />which till is to he pinced should be tx�nched with verticnl steps no morc than 4 feet high after <br />stripping of unsuitablc surficial soils. The slope of �:rmanent fill embankment should not be <br />steeper than 2H:1 V. Upon completion, the sloping face of pertnnnent f II embankments should <br />be thoroughly compacted to n non-yielding state �vith a hoe-pack. <br />I he abovc rccommended cut and fill slopes ure unJer the assumption that groundwater seepage <br />will �ot he cncountered during construction. lf groundwater seepage is encounlercd, the <br />construction should bc immcdiately ht+lted and the slope stabiliry rc-cvuluated.
