r . '
: . ,
' ADDENDUM TO THE
ENVIROrMENTAL CHECRLIST
 EVERET'C ELBERLY HOUSING
I. BACKGROUND
6. The project is a nine floor, 102 unit residential' building
desiqned for low-income elderly under the HUD Section 8
program. The facility will provide congregate Cining and will
fill an important gap between typical elderly housing and
nursing home care. The building has been orientated to provide
some comm rcial space on the first floor relating to Broadway,
and residential facilities on the :,econd floor orientated
toward the west and the existing Senior Center. Residential ,
units will be located on floors 3-9 (14 units/floor) with £our
(4) additional units on the northeast corner of the second
floor. All units will be one bedroom units.
The building will be a Type II masonry bearing wall structure
with prefabricated concrete plank floors and a masonry ext rior.
All windows will be glazed with clear insulated glass. The
building will be served by two geared elevators. The project
will contain 19 parking stalls, with a lawn and garden area off
of the community lounges on the west side of the second floor,
as well as on the north side of the building.
7. The project lies on the west side of Broadway, mid-blok between
Pacific Avenue and Wall Streets (3200 block) . The site is on
the eastern edge of Everett' s central business district,
adjacent to the Everett Senior Center to the soLthwest. The
• property to the south is occupied by a two story Travelodge
Motel, the three lots immedi.ately to the north are 'vacant, and
the property to the west across the alley is occupied by several
marginal residential/commercial structures.
The site has existing foundations which must be removed, and has
a grade differential of approximately one floor (10-12 feet)
between Broadway and the alley to the west. .
II. ENVIRONMENTAL ZMPACTS
1. The proposal wi1Z involve normal basement type excavations into
the existing grade at the alley. Basic perimeter finished grade
elevations will not differ appreciably from existing grades.
Approximately 4000 cubic yards of earth will be removed from the
. site and deposited at an approved dump site.
2. The preposal will result in the addition of 19 parking stalls
and a nominal amount of visitors to the passenger load and
unload zone on Broadway. This increase in traffic will not
generate enough vehicle trips to significantly impact the ambient '
air quality of the area.
. The building height may cause some slight variation in the
localized wind currents but an}- noticeable effect is thought to
be negligible . a
i J
_
