CITY OF EVERETT STORMWATER MANAGEMENT MANUAL <br /> 1 <br /> ' �.2.20 BMP C753: Material Delivery, Storage and Containment <br /> Purpose <br /> Prevent,reduce,or climiaate thc dischazge of pollutants from matcrial dclivery and storage to thc <br /> sto�mwater system or watercourses by minimizing the storage of 6azardous roaterials onsite,storing <br /> materials in a designated area,and installing secondary conta'vunent. ' <br /> Condifions of Use <br /> These procedures are suitable for use at all construction sites with dclivery and storage of the following <br /> materials: <br /> • Fctroleum products such as Cucl, oil and grcasc <br /> • Soil stabilizers and binders(c.g., Polyacrylamide) <br /> • Fertilizers,pesticides and hcrbicides <br /> • Detergents <br /> • Asphalt and concrete compounds <br /> • Hazardous c6emicals such as acids,lime,edhesives,paints,solvents and curing compounds <br /> • Any other roeterial tliat may be detrimental if relcascd ro the envitonmer,t. <br /> Design and Installation Specfficat7ons <br /> ) The following stcps shall be taken to minimize risk: <br /> I. Temporary srorage area shall be located away from vehicular traffic, near the construction <br /> enhancc(s), and away from watenvays or stotm dtains. <br /> 2. Matcrial safery data sheets shall be supplied for all materials stored. Chemicals shall be kept m <br /> their original labeled containers. <br /> 3. Hezerdous material storage on site shall be minimized. <br /> 4. Hazardous materi2ls should be handlcd as infrcquently as possible. <br /> 5. During the wet weather season(October I to April 30),storage o(materials in a covered area <br /> s6a11 bc considercd. <br /> 6. Materials should bc stored in secondary containmcnls,sucS as carthen dike,horsc troug6,or cvcn <br /> a children's wading pool for non•reaclivc materials such as detcrgents,oil, grcase,aad pain:s. <br /> Small arnounts of material may be secondarily contained in"bus boy"trays or concrete mixing <br /> vays. <br /> 7. Chemicals,dcums,or bagged materials shall not be stored directly on the ground. Place thesc <br /> items on a pallet and,when possible, in secondary containment. <br /> 8. If drums must bc kept uncovered,store them at a slight anglc to reduce ponding of rainwater on <br /> the lids to reduce corrosion. llomed plastic covers are inexpensive and snap to the top of drums, <br /> preventing watcr from collecting. <br /> �taterial Storege Areas and Secondary Containment PraeNces: <br /> l. Liquids,petroleum products,and substances listed in 40 CFR Paru I 10, 1 17,or 302 shall be <br /> stared in approved containers and dnuns and shall aot be ovedilled.
