B. Overexcavation: In certatn areas where soft spots occur in the subgrade, satisfactory <br /> sub-grade shall be achfeved by overexcavation and replacement with structural FlII <br /> material or lean mix concrete. <br /> 1. Location and extent of soft spot areas to be verified by the Owner or Auth��rized <br /> Agent in the fleld. <br /> C. Stability of Excavatiore: Slope the sfdes of excavations to comply with Iocal codes and <br /> ordinances having jurfsdictfon. Shore and brace where sloping is not possfble because <br /> ot space restricHons or stability of material excavated. Maintain sides and slopes of <br /> excavations in a safe condit(on until completfon of backfilling. Spray 1 to 2 inches of <br /> shotcrete material on 1:1 cut slopes to stabllize excavation for long-term slope <br /> protection. Shotcrete material shali be as specifled herein. Shotcrete shall be installed <br /> as specified in ACI 506.2-95. A certifled shutcrete nozzleman, per ACI 508.3R-91, shalt <br /> be responsibie for placing the shotcrete. <br /> D. Shoring and Bracing: Provide shoring and bracing to compiy with local codes and <br /> authorities having Jurisdiction. Provide materials for shoring and bracing, such as sheet <br /> pllfng, uprights, stringers and cross-braces, in good serviceable condition. Maintafn <br /> shoring and bracing in excavaUons regardless of the time period excavations will be <br /> open. Carry down shoring and bracing as the excavation progresses. <br /> E. Dewatering: Prevent surface water and subsurfaca or ground water fro�n flowfng into <br /> excavations and from flooding project sfte and surrounding area. <br /> 1. Do not allow water to accumulate in excavations. Remove water to prevent <br /> softening of foundation bottums, undercutting footings and soll changes detrimental <br /> to stabflity of subgrades and foundations. Provide and mainta!n pumps, well points, <br /> sumps, suctfon and discharge 1(nes and ottier dewatering system components <br /> necessary to convey water away from excavatlons. <br /> 2. Establish and mafntain temporary drainage ditches and other dlversions outs(de <br /> excavatfon Iimits for each structure to convey water. Do not use trench excavations <br /> as temporary drainage ditches. <br /> 3. The Contractor is responsibte for mainta!ning the excavation face so that raveling <br /> and water seepage does not occur. Removo water to prevent soften(ng of the <br /> excavation face. <br /> 4. Weep holes may be required to be installed at the base of the excavation based on <br /> field cond(tion and as directed by the Eng(neer. <br /> F. Materfal Storage: Stockpile excavated materials as required. Place, grade, shape and <br /> cover stockpiles for proper drainage and to prevent accumulation of excess moisture. <br /> 1.
